Working Principle of Planetary Mixing and Defoaming Machine: How Revolution and Rotation Realize Paddle-Free Mixing and Defoaming
date:2026-10-19author:小施In the field of new material R&D, mixing and defoaming of powders, colloids and composite slurries are critical procedures that determine product yield. Conventional paddle stirring tends to entrap air, leaving microbubbles inside materials, which cause pinholes and void defects during subsequent curing and high-low temperature tests. With its unique planetary motion structure combining revolution and rotation, the planetary mixing and defoaming machine realizes paddle-free integrated mixing, dispersion and defoaming. It is now widely used in R&D and small-batch production of various precision materials.
The core of the planetary mixing and defoaming machine lies in the compound motion mechanism of revolution and rotation. The high-speed rotating revolution plate generates strong centrifugal force, pushing materials inside the container toward the cup wall and gradually gathering internal bubbles toward the liquid center. Meanwhile, the mixing container rotates in the opposite direction to produce continuous shear force, breaking agglomerated powder particles and achieving microscopically uniform dispersion of fillers in the base resin. The whole process is completed inside a sealed container. If a vacuum module is equipped, negative pressure will be formed in the chamber to reduce the pressure difference inside and outside bubbles, making tiny bubbles trapped in colloids expand, rise and rupture for deep defoaming.

Compared with traditional mixing equipment, the paddle-free structure is a major advantage of planetary defoaming machines. Materials only contact the inner wall of the mixing cup throughout the process. There is no friction and wear from metal stirring paddles, which effectively reduces contamination by metal impurities and meets the preparation requirements of high-cleanliness materials such as semiconductor encapsulation adhesives and medical gels. The whole process only takes several minutes, greatly shortening sample preparation cycles and significantly improving formula debugging efficiency compared with manual stirring plus long static defoaming.
Many engineers confuse planetary mixing with ordinary centrifugal mixing when first using the equipment. Ordinary centrifugation only enables material sedimentation and separation without powder dispersion capacity. Planetary compound motion combines shear dispersion and centrifugal defoaming, which is the core difference in precision slurry preparation. In actual process commissioning, revolution and rotation speeds can be adjusted according to material viscosity and powder filling ratio, with vacuum programs available to adapt to different material systems including low-viscosity resins, high-filled ceramic slurries and high-viscosity thermal conductive adhesives.
